Memory is seen as an elusive element where remembrances of past events are usually validated though the recollection of physical objects such as photographs, attesting to the veracity of an event that is partially remembered. Given this, memory and the objects that validate it are subdued to the degradation associated to the passage of time and it is necessary to understand how a memory’s decay can be reflected upon an object. Aura aims to making a parallel between the degradation of an individuals memory and the images used to remember it.

Starting with the use of a personal family archive, a dissection of a person’s appearance for the past 30 years is synthesized in 36 photographs, which were scanned, re-framed and printed to be intervened with a chemical treatment, that partially removed their pigments. The resulting images portray the progressive dissolution of the subject’s face leaving behind colour stains where the main facial features laid. Additionally, the older the image the less of the portrait is visible, leaving behind constant remains in all the pictures showing black hair and red lips; showing the inner functioning of a decaying memory , its foggy and unclear characteristics that can be easily altered creating new interpretations far from the reality of the physical record.
